Hand Tools

For a long time when I was working out of my small shed with no power, hand tools were all I could use. This developed a love of all things hand tool.

I collect vintage tools that I refurbish and use. But I also appreciate a new/newer tool that does a job far quiet and cleaner than power tools can.

Sometimes no power tool at all can do what hand tools do. So here is my ever growing list.

The true jack of all trades hand plane. I love a vintage hand plane but for beginners this can often be a better hand plane to learn on.

A step up in quality of chisels from the basic sets. There are pricier but for hobby use, these are nice.

Top 3 most popular of 2025. A utility knife that doubles as a scraper and has a nice locking feature. The US version is an import, check for cheaper alternatives.

Small and compact Stanley sliding

knife. Great pocket stanley knife.

Files for intricate work. You wont use them on every job. But the one time you need them you will be glad you have them.

A double Spirit level set that doesnt break the bank and from my experience are well made and accurate.

One of the winners of the block plane shoot out. This pocket sized plane punched well above its weight.

One of the winners of the block plane shoot out. This pocket sized plane punched well above its weight. And it has a handy depth adjustment wheel.

Im not a fan of electrical work but I do need the tools every now and then. These 6 in 1 pliers make sure I dont waste space on tools I hardly use.
